The main difference between the LX and the SX is the cache design. The SX has a total of two caches, primary on chip cache consisting of 16KB instruction and 8KB data. There is a secondary 1mb cache on the motherboard. The LX has a total of three caches, two build into the processor the third a 2mb cache located on the motherboard. The primary cache consists of 16KB instruction and 8KB data. The secondary cache is 96KB unified data and instruction. In addition the SX has a 533Mhz limit in processor speed. The LX on the other hand will run up to a 600Mhz processor. One other note, some 533Mhz LX processors can be clocked up to run at 600Mhz. Performance is as follows: PC164LX & SX Processor cache SPECint95 SPECfp95 211PC-533MHz 1mb-7.5ns 12.4 16.1 <SX> 21164-533MHz 2mb-9ns 16.1 18.8 <LX> 21164-600MHz 2mb-9ns 17.9 19.9 <LX> Cheers, Steve +1-603-421-1800 http://www.dcginc.com ______________________________________________________________ | Stephen Gaudet | ** Digital Authorized reseller ** | | DCG Computers Inc. | Alpha, Intel Pentium Pro systems and | | 4 Sanborn Rd, Suite 2 | motherbds running NT, Linux, & UNIX | | Londonderry, NH 03053 |--------------------------------------| | ph:603-421-1800 x 10 fax:603-421-0911 e-mail:sjg@dcginc.com | -------------------------------------------------------------- **** DCG SX Series 533Mhz Alpha UltraN System for $1995.00 **** -- To unsubscribe: send e-mail to axp-list-request@redhat.com with 'unsubscribe' as the subject.
