( BW)(COMPATIBLE-SYSTEMS) Compatible Systems Secures Branch Office
LANs With IntraGuard Zero-Configuration Firewall

	    BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1998--

New Standalone Firewall Supports VPN Installations, Provides
Pre-Loaded Security Policies for Mid-Size and Branch Office Networks

Compatible Systems Corp. today announced a new standalone
firewall designed for remote branch offices and mid-size networks.
The IntraGuard Zero-Configuration firewall secures Virtual
Private Network (VPN)-equipped networks and delivers a choice between
complete turnkey operation and full administrator control.
The IntraGuard's zero-configuration design allows any network
manager to implement a proven security policy by simply plugging the
unit in and turning it on. A secure embedded operating system
eliminates the recurrent security-related patches, installation
requirements and performance flaws of firewalls running on
general-purpose computers.
"As the Internet continues to grow into its role of WAN backbone
thanks to widespread adoption of VPNs, companies and offices that
never before required full firewall capabilities are needing to
protect themselves and their corporate data from unauthorized
intrusion," said Matt McConnell, president and CEO of Compatible
Systems Corp.
"However, the resources required to buy, configure and maintain a
traditional software-based firewall system can be overwhelming for
smaller offices. The IntraGuard is a perfect middle-ground solution."
"Users view firewalls as a necessary piece of their VPN roll-out,
but in many cases are scared off by the complexity of most existing
firewalls," said Jeff Wilson, director of access programs at
Infonetics Research, Inc. While there are currently many VPN products
that are based on or include firewalls, there is a significant user
population that is afraid of too much product integration, especially
when it comes to security products."

	    IntraGuard Specifications

The IntraGuard is equipped with three 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
interfaces supporting inside, outside and "DMZ" network segments. The
firewall utilizes stateful inspection/blocking technology and also
features multiple logging levels by IP address or host names and
multiple response levels for packets not meeting configured criteria.
A 166 MHz StrongARM(TM) RISC(R) processor drives all firewall
functions. Standard configuration includes 2MB Flash ROM and 20MB
SDRAM.
Network administrators can configure and monitor the IntraGuard
via a variety of management options, including a direct-connected
console, the CompatiView GUI manager for Windows 95(TM), 98 and NT or
telnet.

	    Standard Security Policy

According to industry reports, some 50 percent of the firewalls
on the Internet are misconfigured and represent prime opportunities
for hackers or network intruders. The IntraGuard comes pre-configured
with a solid security policy implementation that limits external
access to the inside network to domain name information (DNS) and
inspected electronic mail (SMTP) commands. Users on the protected side
of the network can access Internet resources using the worldwide web
(HTTP), file transfers (FTP) and other specified TCP/UDP protocols.

	    Pricing and Availability

The IntraGuard is available immediately at a SLP of $3,995.00.
Ingram Micro and Tech Data stock the IntraGuard for resellers. The
list price includes all hardware and software as well as toll-free
phone support and software updates for the life of the product.
