Here is a rough outline of what we're working on and when you can expect it to be released. TclPro 1.1 (beta in the next day or two, final in late November): The primary purpose of this release is to add support for Linux (RedHat 5.x and other Linux systems that support glibc) and SGI IRIX (6.2 and above). There are also several improvements to TclPro Checker, such as checking the number of arguments to Tcl procedures, plus minor bug fixes for all the tools. Tcl/Tk 8.0.4 (final in late November): This fixes a few bugs with Tcl/Tk 8.0.3. TclPro 1.2 (first beta around January 1, 1999, final late February 1999): This release will expand the list of extensions that are bundled with TclPro and add a network license manager to enhance enterprise usage. The new bundled extensions will include at least Expect and TclX, and possibly others. Tcl/Tk 8.1 (first beta early December, final mid-March 1999): These are major new releases of Tcl and Tk. Their most important new features are internationalization (Unicode is used internally to support Asian and other multibyte character sets), thread safety, and a new regular expression package that adds most of the Perl regular expression features as well as supporting Unicode and binary data. Tcl/Tk 8.1 is already available in alpha form from the Scriptics Web site (http://www.scriptics.com) and is nearly feature-complete. Future TclPro releases: As soon as possible after Tcl/Tk 8.1 is released we will make a new release of TclPro that supports Tcl/Tk 8.1. In this release the TclPro tools will work with Tcl/Tk 8.1 applications and all of the bundled extensions will run under Tcl/Tk 8.1. There may also be improvements in the TclPro tools set. ________________________________________________________________________ John Ousterhout 650-843-6902 tel Chief Executive Officer 650-843-6909 fax Scriptics Corporation john.ousterhout@scriptics.com The Tcl Platform Company http://www.scriptics.com
