The data collected for this analysis comprises one week, from 12:30 pm EST on May 29,1999 TO 12:30 pm EST on June 5, 1999. 2. All emails from 'owner-suse-linux@suse.com' received between those start and end times, on MY computer, was included with the following exceptions: a. Any duplicate emails were deleted ( by procmail ). b. All 'Subject:' lines in headers longer than 80 characters were also deleted. c. Obviously, any emails posted to the list that never reached my computer (and I know there were at least a few) were not sourced. 3. Word and Phrase Frequencies were gathered from the 'body' of the email 'message' stripped of both headers and signature lines. No attempt was made to remove any other extraneous material such as PGP or GEEK lines, C source code, etc;. 4. Total time to compose the script using bash, sed, egrep, awk, wc and other tools was approximately 4 hours, including testing. On my home computer ( PII 233mhz, w/ 2 UW SCSI disks & 64 megs ECC memory, running SuSE 6.0 & kernel 2.0.36 ) the execution time is: $time suse.report >real 0m10.224s >user 0m09.060s >sys 0m0.950s which means I probably should have written it in Perl! ;> --------------------------------------------------------- -- David Jeffers "There are no bugs in Windows 95." mailto: jeffers@redrose.net -- Bill Gates Slackware 2.3 1994 - SuSE 6.0 1999 -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/ and the archive at http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html
