From: "Benno Senoner" <sbenno@gardena.net> To: <redhat-devel-list@redhat.com> Subject: Bug in RH6.1 installer ? (unformatted partition crashes the installer) Date: Mon, 4 Oct 1999 21:52:08 +0200 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0005_01BF0EB2.B445BCE0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi, I just tried to upgrade my box from RH6.0 to 6.1, I have the following partitions: hda1 fat32 hda2 linux (contained RH 6.0) hda3 linux swap hda4 linux =20 note that hda4 was unformatted (I did not run mke2fs on this partition) when the installer tries to autodetect the partitions, it fails on hda4 and says mount: invalid argument, and then the installer freezes. after rebooting and running mke2fs on /dev/hda4 , the installer upgraded my box without troubles. That means during install you should check if there is not a valid = filesystem on the partition. just my 0.02c PS: I know these idiotic cases do happen only to me. :-) regards, Benno. ------=_NextPart_000_0005_01BF0EB2.B445BCE0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-1" = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.00.2614.3500" name=3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Hi,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>I just tried to upgrade my box from = RH6.0 to=20 6.1,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>I have the following = partitions:</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>hda1 fat32</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>hda2 linux (contained RH = 6.0)</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>hda3 linux swap</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>hda4 linux </FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>note that hda4 was unformatted (I did = not run=20 mke2fs on this partition)</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>when the installer tries to autodetect = the=20 partitions,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>it fails on hda4 and says mount: = invalid=20 argument,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>and then the installer = freezes.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>after rebooting and running mke2fs on = /dev/hda4 ,=20 the installer upgraded</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>my box without troubles.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>That means during install you should = check if there=20 is not a valid filesystem on the partition.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>just my 0.02c</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>PS: I know these idiotic cases do = happen only to=20 me.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>:-)</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>regards,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Benno.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV></BODY></HTML> ------=_NextPart_000_0005_01BF0EB2.B445BCE0-- -- To unsubscribe: mail -s unsubscribe redhat-devel-list-request@redhat.com < /dev/null
