The weekly summaries for last two weeks weren't published. This is because I was very busy with some work projects. Things should now calm down a bit and I'll try to keep up a bit better with what is happening around in the Midgard world. As this this MWS covers three weeks' period, I've had to leave some things out from it, but I hope the things mentioned here do enough to satisfy the most immediateinformation needs about the Midgard project's status. As usual, subscribing to the mailing list is also a good way of keeping informed about what is going on. ============================ ---------------------------- Current versions: Stable: 1.2.5 (Mad King) Devel.: 1.3 ---------------------------- ============================ Midgard 1.2.5 released Jukka released the latest addition to the 'Mad King' series, Midgard version 1.2.5 on November 10th. The release fixes some problems with the MidgardDatabase directive and incorporates the Russian Midgard patch from Vladimir Bokovoy. The actual Russian Midgard database will still be distributed separately. -> http://www.midgard-project.org/article/1335.html ---------------------------- Combined Midgard + Apache package Emile has put together a combination RPM package that includes Apache 1.3.9, mod_ssl and Midgard. The goal of this package is to make the installation of Midgard easier to new users. MySQL has still to be installed from a separate RPM package. The combination package is currently only available for Midgard 1.2.4, but a newer version will probably come out as soon as Emile gets back from his two weeks' vacation. As the package includes mod_ssl for making the Admin Site usage more secure, there are also some licensing concerns. Here is what Emile writes on the subject: "The current package uses RSA encryption, which is unencumbered by patents and licensing in the EU, but can't be used in the USA. Blowfish may be a good replacement, being explicitly free for any use, commercial or otherwise, anywhere in the world. If anyone has previous experience with blowfish, knows about browser support for it, or has authoritive references either validating or debunking its strength, please post information on the Midgard mailing list" You can find the combination package from Midgard's release archives: -> http://www.midgard-project.org/article/1309.html ---------------------------- Midgard Developer Meeting Many people have recently expressed interest in working on the actual Midgard code, and Jukka has now called an IRC meeting for organizing the distributed development effort. The proposed time for the meeting is Thursday November 25th, at about 16 GMT. Contact Jukka Zitting for further information. -> http://www.progressive-comp.com/Lists/?l=midgard&m=94208129107619&w=2 ---------------------------- Server problems The Grey Wolves' server, where Midgard's Web and email services are currently hosted had a power failure on Monday, and it took us until today to get it back up. We apologize for the inconvenience. The next downtime will be on November 25th, when we will take the server down for maintenance and addition of a new hard drive. This should give us the needed resources for keeping the service in still acceptable levels for some months. The downtime should be only few hours. For a longer term solution, we've been in talks with VA Linux Systems about getting our services hosted there, but that will probably still take some time. Please try to bear with us while we get over these problems. ---------------------------- Midgard slides in PDF format Marco Dings has converted the Midgard Workshop presentations into a printable format. As there was quite much interest in them, we've made the slides available in PDF format from Midgard's Web site. -> http://www.midgard-project.org/article/1337.html ============================ ============================ About Midgard Midgard is a freely-available Web application development and publishing platform based on the popular PHP scripting language.
