Inventive Communications Acquires Rights to Spiro-Linux; will Broaden OEM appeal of Linux
December 7, 1999 - Inventive Communications announces the acquisition of
the rights to market Spiro-Linux(R)
from Openshare.net. Rick Collette, chief developer of this enhanced
version of Linux, will continue to be the primary maintainer of
the Spiro-Linux distribution. Inventive Communications will work
collaboratively to provide customers with three powerful
programs: Spiro Linux for Intel and Sun Ultra Platforms, and Spiro
Companion.

o Spiro Linux is the only distribution for Intel and Sun Ultra
Platforms that comes with five easy-to-use Server
installations (Mega Server, Web Server, Application Server, Name
Server, File and Print Server) and three Workstation
installations (General Purpose, Development and Graphics), plus an
upgrade path and a custom install. Spiro includes the
SIAG Office Suite which contains a word processor, spreadsheet,
animation editor and a PowerPoint-like tool that is built
into the product. In addition, Spiro has the capability to import
Microsoft Word documents into Linux.

o Spiro Companion includes tools for X Windows, tools and utilities
for the Diamond Rio MP3 Player, login software for
the RoadRunner Cable Modem, ISP tools, utilities for security, 3-D
modeling, graphics and games.

o Inventive Communications will be working on 6 additional
standalone products, designed for the expanding Linux
market. (e.g. one step firewall, one step mail server, etc?)

"Spiro comes natively with tools for the network administrator, palm
pilot synchronization tools and a
powerful SQL Server that are stronger than those offered by other Linux
platforms," said Bill Danker, CEO of
Inventive Communications. "Spiro has a large database of hardware that
is automatically detected by Plug and
Play, and the database can easily be updated for use with different oem
products."

Inventive Communications is developing platform support for Sun 32 bit,
iMac, PowerPC, MIPS and Amiga.
Currently in beta test, Inventive is pursuing relationships with
different OEM manufactures in need of a more
robust and easier to use version of Linux.
