Subject: [linux-usb] USB 2.3.99 jobs (updated)

Hi,

Let's assume (yes, I know what that means) that 2.4.0
will be released soon... what do we need to focus on
in the next few (or many) weeks to assure:

- decent behavior of USB (minimal oops/bug reports)
- satisfied users (at least of devices that we have support for)

What else do we want to add to these goals?

Here's the beginning of my list:

1. USB PnP support (usbd etc.); permanence of usbdevfs?
2. same semantics & behavior from *HCI drivers (again)
3. devfs support & device names
4. bandwidth allocation in HCDs [needed for USB PlugFest in
    August/2000]

===== Other Issues =====

What's the status of the OHCI HCD now, on NEC controllers,
Lucent controllers, PMACs, etc.?

Nice to have:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a.  Add DocBook driver API documentation to the source files.
b.  Make sure that the APC workaround works.
c.  Remove some of the backwards-compatibility API.
Request from Martin Mares:
-   I'd also like to see some support for progress reporting
    on bulk URB's. It's needed for my USB networking
    driver which is close to being finished and I'd like to see
    it in one of the first few 2.4 releases.
For the USB PlugFest, we also need what Brad Hards calls
an isoc-soak program.  This program would consume a variable
amount (user-specified) of USB bandwidth by doing Isoc. OUT
transfers to a full-speed valid_device:invalid_endpoint
(packet size => bandwidth consumed).  The device will (should)
just drop the data and the host won't care.
At Brad's suggestion, I've been looking at using usbdevfs to
do this, and it looks like some changes to Tom's usbstress
package could satify this need.  If anyone has time to
complete this, please let me know.
~Randy
