From: Maximiliano Muller <rosario@linux.org.ar> To: lwn@lwn.net Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000 21:15:35 +0000 Subject: Jornada GNU/Linux in Argentina First GNU/Linux Meeting to be held in Rosario, Argentina. This is the first meeting of its kind, organised by a LUG through the joint effort of LUGro (Linux User Group of Rosario) and ANT (Association for the (Development) of New Technologies). Over 25 conferences will take place on 4th, 5th, and 6th August with the main speaker and guest of honor being Richard M. Stallman. Throughout the event, there will be stands showing the installation of several Linux distributions, attendants bringing their own CPU will have Linux installed, and CDs with distributions will be handed out as well. Out of the true spirit of GNU/Linux, special emphasis has been placed on its non-commercial side, hence the admission is free of charge and open to all and commercial stands have been ruled out. The only stands are those from LUGro, from other LUGs nationwide and from other Latinamerican countries such as Uruguay and Venezuela. There is mounting excitement towards the event from the whole Linux community of the country who is really looking forward to this meeting and an attendance of 2,000 people is expected. To achieve this, other LUGs from the country have provided their help and support in the advertising of the event as well as in the arrangement of the means of transport to reach the place where it will be held. No doubt this is going to be a great event for all Linux users and supporters and we hope we will be able to share this experience with other LUGs which may wish to organise similar events in the future.
