Trondheim, Norway, - October 12, 2000 - Trustix AS, a leading Internet infrastructure software company that provides Internet software for management of systems, software, security and information, today announced it has successfully participated in a competition by hackers and crackers who tried in vain to break into its secure operating system - Trustix Secure Linux. More than 400 000 attempts were made by hackers and crackers, many of them professionals, to break into a server running the Trustix Secure Linux operating system. During the four day long event, none managed to break into the Trustix Secure Linux computer, and none managed to put it out of business. The Trustix Secure Linux computer withstood all attempts to compromise security and put it out of business. Around 750 hackers and crackers attended the gathering called Northlan 2000, held from 5th of October to 8th of October 2000 in Larvik, Norway. "In total there were more than 400 000 attempts to hack the Trustix Secure Linux computer, but none of these managed to put it out of business, and none managed to break into the computer and retrieve the secret information," said Roy Hogstad, chief organizer of Northlan 2000. "Security and reliability are two fundamental and extremely important factors when doing business on the Internet," said Havard Wollan, CEO of Trustix. "We are very pleased with the results from the competition, and the results confirm that Trustix Secure Linux is a highly suitable platform for eCommerce and Internet business because of its high security, high reliability and high performance. According to our research, the Trustix Secure Linux operating system is now being used by customers in more than 100 countries around the world." "I am often surprised about the lack of knowledge when I speak to computer system administrators in companies and public sector organizations," said Frode Gerhardsen, Sales Director at Trustix. "Most are not fully aware of the security threats to their computer systems, which can be seriously damaged by hackers breaking in through the Internet. By using our Trustix Secure Linux operating system, these companies and organizations could achieve a higher level of security and reliability." In addition to its Trustix Secure Linux operating system, Trustix also provides Internet infrastructure software for management of systems, software, security and information. Trustix XPloy is the leading eBusiness systems management solution for Linux. Trustix will soon release its next generation solutions, including new infrastructure software and systems management solutions for the wireless Internet. "The wireless Internet is coming fast, and when the Internet is everywhere, including your home and your car, security is obviously very important," said Trustix' CEO Havard Wollan. "Our next generation products will provide security and systems management for the wireless Internet." About Northlan 2000 Northlan 2000 is the second largest computer gathering in Norway.
