Attention: Open Source Advocates
At Lane Community College, we have recently formed the
LCC- OPEN SOURCE COMPUTER GROUP.
At the college level I have found that open source has
very limited (if any) representation. For instance in CIS
140 Operating Environments, Linux and Mac have 2 hours each.
The balance of this 10-week course is devoted to Windows and
DOS.
The good news is that there are a few Linux boxes on
campus. The great news is that the demand for Linux is huge.
In 2 meetings we have 20+ members.

                                                OUR MISSION
TO CREATE AN OPEN SOURCE COMMUNITY AT LCC; TO HELP STUDENTS
INTEGRATE OPEN SOURCE TOOLS & PHILOSOPHY INTO THEIR
EDUCATION, AND TO HELP CONNECT STUDENTS WITH THE LARGER OPEN
SOURCE COMMUNITY.

We should have our web presence up and running soon
contact ruudninja@netscape.net our web master.

We are figuring out which areas we would like to
support, some of our basics are; an open source library,
distribution and help with installation issues, review and
report on software, hardware configuration, etc.
If you have any materials that you think we could use in
our efforts please send them to:

  Open Source Computer Group
  Student Activities
  Lane Community College
  4000 East 30th Avenue
  Eugene, OR. 97405-0640

I would personally like to set up lines of
communication with the larger open source community, please
have one of your representatives e-mail me. I look forward
to helping with letting our students know more about you.

A special thanks to free BSD and turbolinux, for sending us
great promotional material, we are making it available to
all that are into open source at Lane Community College.
