-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-

Penguin Computing Appoints Scott Weinbrandt as Vice
President of Marketing

Experienced Server Marketing Executive From Dell Joins
Fast-Growing Linux Internet Infrastructure Vendor

San Francisco, Calif. -- Jan. 29, 2001 --Penguin Computing
Inc., a San Francisco, Calif.-based provider of reliable
Linux systems for Internet serving, today announced that
Scott Weinbrandt has joined the company as vice president of
marketing, effective immediately. A seasoned product
marketing and management executive, Weinbrandt brings 14
years of experience launching, marketing and accelerating
market share growth for server products from Dell Computers
(NASDAQ: DELL), AT&T (NYSE: T), and AST Research.

Weinbrandt is the second former Dell executive to join
Penguin Computing in the past month. He is preceded by Marty
Seyer, Penguin Computing's president and CEO, who held the
position of director of product marketing at Dell before
operating most recently as the vice president and general
manager of the eBusiness and High Availability Server
division at NCR.

The two executives, together with the recent appointment of
former Agilent executive John Page as chief financial
officer, collectively bring over 60 years of proven
leadership experience with well-known high-tech companies to
the senior executive staff at Penguin Computing.

"Recruiting a seasoned marketing executive like Scott, with
demonstrated experience and success in the server market, is
a tremendous win for Penguin Computing," said Seyer. "Scott
has the skills and the determination required to
fast-forward Penguin Computing's marketing efforts and
dramatically increase our share of the server market."

Prior to joining Penguin Computing, Weinbrandt served with
Dell for eight years in senior marketing executive roles for
servers, enterprise systems, and storage products. During
his tenure as Dell's North American director of brand
marketing for its server and storage brands, Weinbrandt
drove server market share from 2% to 20%, taking it to the
number two market share position in the US. Most recently,
Weinbrandt served as the director of marketing for the K-12
Education division and was also the director for Dell's
Public Sector client brand marketing organization. During
this period, Dell's K-12 Education division market share
position moved from number three to number one, surpassing
Compaq and Apple.

Beyond eight years of experience with Dell, Weinbrandt has
five years of experience operating in senior marketing
management roles for server products at AT&T Global
Information Solutions and at AST Research.

Weinbrandt has a BS in Computer Science from San Diego State
University.
