Linux Canada Inc. releases
Quasar(tm) Accounting Software
for Linux (Beta Version)

ALBERTA, CANADA - Continuing its commitment to Linux and the development of Linux based applications, Linux Canada Inc. today announced the beta release of its new accounting application for business - Quasar.

Linux Canada Inc. has been working with Linux since 1994. Its Linux based retail application, Retailer's Choice, has been installed in retail sites since 1995. The feature-set, quality, and reliability of Linux make it an excellent O/S for the mission-critical retail and business environment. In 1998, Linux Canada Inc. released LinuxPOS, a retail point-of-sale application developed in Linux for Linux.

Convinced that Linux is the wave of the future, Linux Canada Inc. has developed Quasar accounting software. In the next few months, Linux Canada Inc. will release an interface between the Quasar application and the LinuxPOS application, providing a truly dynamic business combination for those businesses requiring both accounting and point-of-sale. Quasar and LinuxPOS will be of immediate interest to those demanding quality, reliability and afford-ability.

Quasar Accounting Software

Quasar is a complete, fully-functional accounting package, designed specifically by Linux Canada Inc. to take advantage of the power and features inherent in today's operating systems. It is important to note that Quasar was designed in Linux with a GUI interface. Quasar is not a port from a bygone operating system or an old text based program.

Key emphasis has been placed on ease of setup and ease of use. The creators of Quasar are confident that even novice computer users will be comfortable learning and working with the application.

Quasar accounting software was designed using Qt, a multi-platform C++ GUI tool kit from Trolltech. Qt provides single-source portability across Windows 95/98/NT/2000, Linux, Solaris, HP-UX and many other versions of Unix with X11. For more information on Qt and Trolltech, consult their web page at http://www.trolltech.com/qt.

Quasar connects to SQL compliant databases. Currently the only supported interface is Firebird. Firebird is an open source relational database based on the InterBase® 6 engine recently released to Open Source by Inprise/Borland that runs on Linux, Windows, and a variety of Unix platforms. For further information on Firebird, consult their web site at http://firebird.sourceforge.net .

Quasar is a comprehensive business-accounting application. Features include: a user definable chart of accounts; a unique address book for defining customers, vendors, employees and miscellaneous acquaintances; sales; inventory control (complete with sales history and universal price changes); purchasing and receiving; cheque writing; mailing labels; receivables; payables; and even a to-do list. Quasar comes complete with on-line help. A "User's Guide" is available in Postscript format.
