UIB 1-A: The Feature-Rich Application Development Platform

HOUSTON, TX – (February 6, 2001) Looking for an affordable
alternative to developing an Internet appliance or networking device
from the ground up? Look no further than 3iNet. Your single solution
is their popular Linux-based Universal Internet Box, newly released as
UIB 1-A.

UIB 1-A is a platform packed with a versatile set of hardware
components, ready to be transformed by developers into finished,
ready-to-ship applications simply by adding the desired software.

The UIB platform has already proven its functionality and ease of use
in applications such as customized routers and firewalls. Potentially
unlimited applications include Internet gateways, credit card
verification devices, Internet answering machines and web servers.

UIB 1-A is a modified version of the original UIB. Both incorporate an
embedded processor that integrates onto a single chip additional
functions that would normally require supplemental hardware. They use
the same Acer Laboratories, Inc (ALi) x86 compatible processor, 8MB
DiskOnChip by M-Systems and 8 MB of RAM. They both include a 2x16 LCD
display, two LEDs and two programmable push buttons.

New components for Version 1-A are a battery backup for real time
clock display; a DTMF hardware decoder that accepts remote DTMF input
commands; and, most importantly, an on-board 33,600 bps modem for true
dial-up capability. The modem is significant because it permits full
PPP connections to an ISP and allows the addition of HTTP or e-mail
protocols if needed.

Beyond the hardware platform, UIB 1-A contains a full set of software
tools that accelerate time-to-market. They include the company's own
embedded version of Linux that fits into 8MB of flash memory, all
necessary device drivers and a powerful software toolkit.

The toolkit consists of a C++ class API that allows direct access to
the LCD, push buttons, LEDs, modem, etc. All the source code for the
device drivers and toolkit is provided under GPL public license.
