PRESS RELEASE 2001-03-22 World Debut for Hårdvarubolaget’s TV-BOKKSÔ at Cebit 2001 Hannover/Germany, March 22, 2001 - At Cebit, for the first time ever, Hårdvarubolaget’s TV-BOKKSÔ will be demonstrated. Services like ”Video-on-Demand”, ”IP-TV”, Web-Browsing and ”Music-on-Demand” will be running on this excellent new hardware. Hårdvarubolaget, is a member of Framfab Labs, and exhibits in the Framfab Germany Booth #F55 in Hall 6. TV-BOKKSÔ enables broadband services to be displayed on a normal television set. It is a product that can replace your VCR and video store, as services like Video-on-Demand are offered over a broadband network. The TV-BOKKSÔ and TV will replace the home computer. This allows users to surf the Internet and to send e-mails from most people’s favourite position, the living room sofa. TV-BOKKS™ uses the Escape browser from Espial, which is a product that runs under Java Virtual Machine. This makes it very portable and easy to use. Thanks to this browser TV-BOKKS™ can run all types of general Internet pages. TV-BOKKSÔ is the first in a series of BLOKKS™ products. BLOKKS™ are hardware modules that let a user connect different home appliances to a broadband network. New and converging services are possible to benefit from this hardware system. - I am extremely pleased with both the speed and the quality of the development of TV-BOKKSÔ, says Christian Merheim, CEO, Hårdvarubolaget. It is a work extraordinary well-done, considering the short time the development team has had at its disposal. This proves we have a highly competent development team and that we have succeeded in choosing the right partners for this assignment. - TV-BOKKSÔ fulfils the requirements for mass-market penetration. The low price level makes it possible to supply it to every household connected to a broadband network. TV-BOKKSÔ functionality covers all important parts of an audiovisual broadband experience. TV-BOKKSÔ fulfils Bredbandsbolaget’s requirements, says Jan-Erik Fiske, co-founder, Bredbandsbolaget. - Hårdvarubolaget’s TV-BOKKSÔ is very user-friendly and affordable”, says Georges Batarsé, Marketing Director Information Appliance and Networks at National Semiconductor in Europe. TV-BOKKSÔ is a very advanced digital set top box and one of the first devices based on National Semiconductor’s highly integrated single chip solution, the GeodeÔ SC1200 processor. We have been working very closely with Hårdvarubolaget and are glad to see how much this nicely designed product takes advantage of the functionalities offered by our Geode technology. - TV-BOKKSÔ will form a new category of products that connects old technology like the TV to new technology like broadband network. Our products will be easy to use and to show this the design of our products is calm, intelligent and friendly with a futuristic touch to emphasise the revolutionary development, says Arman Mudde, chief designer Hårdvarubolaget. We have worked hard with the user interfaces of the TV-BOKKSÔ and our goal is that it shall be as easy for my mother as for my nephews to use it and at the same time keep the interest of a more advanced user. TV-BOKKSÔ is available for volume shipments during the second quarter 2001. It is currently running in live tests on broadband networks in Sweden. It will be priced attractively, to make it possible for consumers to get the hardware at a very low cost against a subscription of an IP-TV service from a broadband service provider.
