From: Keith Owens <kaos@ocs.com.au> To: kbuild-devel@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [kbuild-devel] kbuild-2.5 schedule Date: Sun, 01 Apr 2001 07:00:09 -0700 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii ESR and I presented kbuild-2.5 at the Linux 2.5 development kernel summit. It went over pretty well, most people want the new features, especially separate source and object trees. Linus was a bit disgruntled (actually he went ballistic) because he thought that this work had come out of nowhere, especially CML2. He calmed down when we explained that it had been discussed on kbuild for over a year and nobody wanted to continue with CML1 or the old style makefiles. Linus will not accept this patch into 2.4, even though it changes no files. His argument is that having it in 2.4 will mean extra reports for him, which is fair enough. So we have to maintain a separate kbuild-2.5 patch against 2.4 for a while. Linus agreed that 2.5 will use kbuild 2.5, the tentative order is Patch kbuild 2.5 against 2.4 kernels, supporting both CML1 and CML2. Push everybody to test using kbuild 2.5 and CML2. Linus clones 2.4.x as 2.5.0, still on old kbuild. 2.5.1 has some outstanding network fixes, still on old kbuild. 2.5.2 converts to kbuild 2.5, CML2 only. All subject to change, of course. No date for kernel 2.5. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Exmh version 2.1.1 10/15/1999 iD8DBQE6xzRpi4UHNye0ZOoRAggfAJ0fzunVNpEVB6heTlHGc4m7vUt/zwCfaIpH e+KduEVypi1rb2gGdqdPhO8= =bnG4 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ kbuild-devel mailing list kbuild-devel@lists.sourceforge.net http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/kbuild-devel
