Welcome to the June issue of LPI News, where we update you on what's
 going on at LPI.

The Linux Professional Institute provides vendor neutral certification
  for individual expertise in Linux.
Please take a look at our website for details on our program, and on
the objectives covered in the exams; http://www.lpi.org

 1. LINTRAINING

Lintraining is a website designed to list all Linux training locations
world wide, and offer other training information.
 http://www.lintraining.com

 Lintraining has reached a milestone in listing training sites;
There are a total of 521 training centers offering Linux training in
 every corner of the globe.

If you have a training centre to be added, where you offer preparation
for Linux certification - please have a look at the lintraining site.

 2.  LEVEL ONE UPDATE;
LPI plans to review and update its first certification level. There re
two circumstances that prompted us to start working on this:>
 1) From the Job Analysis Survey that we had last February and March for
Level 2, we also obtained up-to-date information on what tass are
appropriate for Level 1 (rather than Level 2).

 2) We have been noticing that some of the Level 1 objectives have been
growing stale. For instance, objective 1.13.5 (in test 102) mentions
 BIND
version 4, which was in Linux distributions when the objectives were
formulated 2 years ago but is no longer included in any major Linux
 distributions.

Also note that 2 years is the time frame that we anticipated for
 regularly
 updating the objectives (http://www.lpi.org/a-policies.html consensus
point IX). So the time is ripe to review and update Level 1. The
 steps,
 with a tentative schedule, are:

 * Refresh the web-based development tools POMS and TIPS (finish early
 June).
 * A small team of people revise the objectives based on the latest
 JAS (finish late June).
 * Open the new draft objectives to public review (through July).
 * The new test objectives for Level 1 get frozen (late July).
 * A list of the changes and their motivation will be distributed, for
 the
convenience of students, trainers, and publishers (mid-August).
 * All current Level 1 exam items are reviewed for performance and
conformance to the new test objectives (mid-September).
 * Simultaneously, new test items are written conforming to the new
 objectives, and reviewed (late September).
 * The revised test items are added to the L1 tests; they do not count
 yet
for the exam result, but during some period we collect statistics to
assess the quality of the new items (late October).
 * The final new exams are published (mid November).

 2A. LEVEL TWO UPDATE;
Please note that during the months ahead, development of Level 2 has
highest priority, and resources and time will be committed to that
project ahead of the update of Level 1.

 3. LPI ALUMNI
Alumni are those people around the world who have taken and passed both
the LPI level one exams and are now LPIC-1.
(We now have about 560 alumni.)

For all the LPI-alumni folk who would like to particpate in a
 website specifically for LPI graduates, check this out;
 http://alumni.lpi.org/stories.php

We are also planning to issue Alumni Identity Cards and we are
asking anyone interested in donating funds to start this program -
please send a cheque to the LPI office in Canada - or through PayPal
 ( http://www.paypal.com ) email to wilma@lpi.org.
The contributor sponsor values in US dollars; $100, $500, $1000
Your name will appear on the LPI website as a contributor sponsor
 http://www.lpi.org/a-sponsors.html

All contributor names will be entered into a drawing for an ELPIK
Penguin. ELPIK is a Tux penguin wearing a graduation cap and an LPI
tshirt, and would love to sit proudly on the desk of a generous LPI
  contributor!

 4. LPI-Italy

We are delighted to see our friends in Italy have translated the web
site - http://www.lpi.org under the Italian flag.

 5. LPI-Korea

We also have wonderful friends in Korea who have translated the web
 site into Korean.
 http://www.lpi.org under the ROK flag.

many people and ensure they are made aware of the LPI program.
We would like to thank all those who have participated in translation
 of all these sites.

 8. LinuxCare / Bradford Learning

There has been movement within our (LPI) supporters. Linuxcare
recently spun off its Linuxcare University team under the able
leadership of Jim Lacey into a separate company called Bradford
 Learning.
All the courseware, channel partners and the Linuxcare University staff
were transferred over to the new company.
Info is on the Linuxcare site at:

   http://www.linuxcare.com/university/index.epl

and the new company is at:

   http://www.bradfordlearning.com/

 9. Linux Shows and Conferences

We have been asked to particpate in the London Linux Show at
 the beginning of July; http://www.linuxexpo.co.uk/index/

 We will also be at the Toronto Comdex in July;
 http://www.key3media.com/comdex/canada2001/

Please let us know if you can give us any of your time to assist
 during either of these shows.

That's it for now, thanks again to all our supporters, sponsors and
 friends.

Contact LPI if there are any questions or concerns; info@lpi.org or
