Mission Critical Linux, Inc. and Marvell(NASDAQ:MRVL) Announce Availability of Linux Evaluation Platform for High-Performance System Controller for PowerPC Based Systems --Port of Marvell's DiscoveryTM GT- 64260 Evaluation Platform to Linux expands capabilities of industry-leading system controller and will speed development of next-generation communications products-- Lowell, Massachusetts - July 9, 2001 - Mission Critical Linux, Inc., the industry leading Linux solutions and services company, and Marvell, a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications solutions, today announced that they have developed a Linux-based evaluation kit for the Marvell DiscoveryTM GT-64260 system controller. Working together, Mission Critical Linux and Marvell developed the evaluation kit. Customers now have the system-level development platform necessary to evaluate and develop Linux-based solutions for the Marvell Discovery GT-64260 chipset running in PowerPC-based systems. It is anticipated that this will significantly decrease the time necessary to develop Linux-based, next-generation communication systems that want to take advantage of the GT-64260. "The development of Linux boot and runtime support for our Discovery GT-64260 development platform will make it easier for data communications and telecommunications equipment manufacturers to see what our chips can do in a Linux environment," said Dave Matteucci, Marvell's Vice President of the Internetworking Products Business Unit. "This will only enhance the advantages we bring to our customers in terms of integration, flexibility and time-to-market." Marvell's Discovery GT - 64260 is a full-featured system controller that combines high-performance system and communications peripherals on a single chip. Supporting industry standard PowerPC processors like the Motorola 74xx and 75x families and IBM's 750 series CPUs, the GT- 64260 System Controller includes three ethernet controllers, two 64-bit PCI busses, and two multi-purpose serial controllers (MPSC). This announcement means that Linux boot and runtime support is now available to OEMs needing to take advantage of the Marvell Discovery Series Chips. "Our work with Marvell is another example of how Mission Critical Linux's expertise in Linux can help companies develop solutions and technologies that take advantage of the open-source operating system," said Brian Stevens, Chief Technology Officer of Mission Critical Linux. "It was nice to be able to work with a company like Marvell and bring the advantages of Linux to those looking to take advantage of Marvell's next-generation Discovery GT- 64260 platform." Pricing and Availability Starting in July 2001, the Linux kernel, root file system, and boot loader will be shipped with each GT- 64260 Development Kit. For those who have already purchased the development kits, the code will also be freely available on the Mission Critical Linux web site at http://oss.missioncriticallinux.com/ .
