User Friendly Media signs agreements with ComputerGear and O'Reilly & Associates July 10, 2001 New Westminster, BC - Reacting to audience demands for merchandise and the next collection of User Friendly comic strips, User Friendly Media (CDNX: UFM) has signed a merchandising agreement with ComputerGear, Inc., and a third publishing deal with O'Reilly & Associates. ComputerGear, Inc. of Redmond, Washington will provide a full line of User Friendly-licensed merchandise to UserFriendly.org's huge fan base, and through ComputerGear's existing channels. A privately held, mail order catalog company, ComputerGear offers a line of fun, computer-related gifts for computer enthusiasts. Started in 1992, ComputerGear sells its product lines via its web site, mail-order catalogues and Redmond, WA store. "This partnership allows us to expand our product lines to include the characters from the User Friendly comic strip, characters that have already become popular icons for the computer industry" says Terry Powers, VP Sales and Marketing of ComputerGear. User Friendly Media's merchandising agreement with EBIZ Enterprises Inc. (d.b.a. TheLinuxStore.com) has been terminated. The new agreement with ComputerGear will give the User Friendly Media audience access to a larger selection of User Friendly-licensed products. "We are excited about being able to offer User Friendly merchandise through a partner like ComputerGear," says David Barton, Vice-President of Operations, User Friendly Media. "Working with ComputerGear will ensure that our fans receive the high quality products and service that they deserve." Following two immensely popular editions, a third User Friendly book featuring a collection of the web site's daily cartoon strips will be available this August. Titled "The Root of all Evil", O'Reilly & Associates, Inc. will again be the book's publisher. "This type of book represents a year's worth of cartooning, so there is no singular experience associated with producing it. Instead, it is a collection of 300 odd experiences crammed into one book," says J.D. Frazer (a.k.a. Illiad), creator of User Friendly the comic strip. This latest book joins the raft of new User Friendly Media content offerings, including two online, interactive video products Behind the Scenes and Inside the Box and a virtual marketplace called GeekBazaar. Designed to appeal to the intellectual entertainment interests of the IT professional, User Friendly Media products focus on cool technologies, technical products and companies. About User Friendly Media Inc. User Friendly Media operates a premier online entertainment web site appealing to the highly influential IT community. Starting out over three years ago as an online cartoon, UserFriendly.org now attracts over 500,000 unique visitors resulting in excess of 10 million page views per month. # # # Contact: Laura Jo Gunter VP Creative & Marketing User Friendly Media Inc. 604.519.2444 laurajo@userfriendly.org http://www.userfriendly.org Jas Dhanday Chief Financial Officer User Friendly Media Inc. 604.515.3195 jas@userfriendly.org http://www.ufmedia.com
