Metro Link Releases IPWorks Integrated OS for Small Embedded Systems FORT LAUDERDALE, July 10, 2001 - Metro Link, Inc. (www.metrolink.com), the leading provider of Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) technology, today announced the release of their new Metro IPWorks(tm) Software Development Kit (SDK). Metro IPWorks(tm) is a network-centric operating system and TCP/IP network implementation that is targeted for small-embedded systems with 16-bit micro controllers. It consumes as little as 85KB of memory. A key feature of Metro IPWorks(tm) is its ease of use. Its friendly high-level interface allows customers to focus on their application and not on the hardware details. IPWorks is easy to configure, without the need to recompile the entire OS, and it provides OS support for managing threads, inter-thread communication, memory management, semaphores, and queues. High-level driver interfaces are provided for devices that are part of the embedded controller, as is an interface for adding application-specific device support. Metro IPWorks(tm) includes the operating system, the TCP/IP stack, and a micro web server. An optional module is available for UPnP device interfaces. IPWorks networking supports all major protocols, and it is generally easy to add support for additional protocols, as well. "Metro IPWorks(tm) will eliminate frustration for software developers of small embedded systems because they won't have to worry about compatibility issues," said Morgan Von Essen, Metro Link President and CEO. "IPWorks is a full solution--a tightly integrated OS, TCP/IP stack, and micro web server."
