It can profile any binary in the system with a low overhead. Version 0.0.4 of oprofile has been released. It can be downloaded from http://oprofile.sf.net as usual. oprofile is still considered alpha software. Thanks to Philippe Elie for many bugfixes and new features. Thanks to Dave Jones and Bob Montgomery for bugfixes. Release notes ------------- SMP machines running SMP kernels are still unsupported. SMP machines running UP kernels must use the current Alan Cox series of 2.4 kernels. The file format has changed from 0.0.3's format. You can use the utility oprof_convert to convert to the new format. Feature improvements -------------------- A new tcl/tk GUI for configuring and starting oprofile is included. Support for producing annotated source and assembly has been added. The kernel module can now be unloaded. Sample files are backed up if necessary. Speed improvements. Bugfixes -------- A serious bug in the kernel module has been fixed. A daemon segfault due to module loads/unloads has been fixed. A daemon file leak has been fixed. Efficient support for modules with no symbols. Sample files are created a-new if the details don't match. CONFIG_MODVERSIONS support. Improved documentation. Unit mask fixes. Support for Slackware.
