With the number of Linux-based applications growing over 40 percent this year, this evaluation kit will help drive new applications for a variety of industries, including finance, retail, and education. According to Evans Data Corp., more than 40 percent of developers surveyed are likely to write Linux-based applications in 2001. In an effort to support the Linux development community, IBM has created the Software Evaluation Kit for Linux, which contains the company's industry leading middleware. The CD is a compilation of IBM software on the Linux and Windows platforms that allows developers to preview the offerings and develop applications for them at no charge. With IBM's industry-leading Linux-enabled software portfolio, developers can build static and dynamic Web pages and Web services, manage information, and establish groupware and collaborative team environments. Developer's can use Visual Age for Java for Linux or download WebSphere Studio for Windows as their development platform. They can use WebSphere Application Server and DB2 Universal Database to get a Web application up and running quickly, while using Lotus Domino to enhance collaboration across a corporation. The software provides developers the first Web Services implementation on Linux to support J2EE, XML, SOAP, UDDI and WSDL. Developers can use the Kit to create applications on either Windows or Linux for deployment on a Linux server environment.
