Subject: Dr. Dobb's Python-URL! - weekly Python news and links (Sep 10)
Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2001 09:20:58 -0500 (CDT)

'Looks like Google changed their "groups" arguments, and start= doesn't work
anymore, so all URLs point to the beginning of the thread or to a specific
article. Oh well. Depending on whatever order google happened to sort the
articles in seemed fragile anyway. Hope this isn't too confusing for people

    Language use:
kmalloc wants to extend an application with python. Alex describes
how to set up the python namespace from C and how to write python
classes in C (the traditional party line is "Don't. Write python
classes wrapping C functions, which are much easier to write."):
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=1d68eb930a358733

Fred wants to know how to handle deep inheritance, and Joel
    discusses import dependency management:
        http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=3B9456D0.635BDC3E%40student.gu.edu.au

Bob wants a graphics library to draw and manipulate shapes. There
    are a number of candidates:

Can you use python for sysadmin-ly tasks? Of course, and many
people do. Let's get away from 300 line incomprehensible shell
    scripts:

        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=1c049c520814b002&rnum=1

    Announcements:
"Anygui is a generic GUI package which allows you to write
programs that will work with several backends, such as Tkinter,
    wxPython, and Java Swing.":
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=7e177109ff8caada&rnum=2

CGIgen is... umm... well, it looks like a ZPublisher-like
"publish your python objects on the web" sort of thing, except
different. It also has an interesting looking exception
handling/mapping mechanism. This is an early alpha, so check
out the source if you're interested:
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=56c920f30591f290&rnum=1

PY21 is another python distribution for windows. It includes
    Tkinter, PIL, PST, and more:
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=9445d2b02cf4eb59&rnum=1

PyF*ck, a python compiler for BrainF*ck (compiles to python).
BrainF*ck is a fine language, though possibly not as readable
    as python:
