NUSPHERE INTRODUCES INTERNET SECURITY COMPONENTS TO NUSPHERE ADVANTAGE

NuSphere Creates Secure Environment for Managing Web Sites Based on MySQL,
Apache, PHP or Perl

BEDFORD, Mass.,-September 24, 2001-NuSphere Corporation today announced new
Internet security components to provide intrusion prevention and a secure
environment for web sites and database servers. NuSphere Advantage,
Version 2.3, combines several new security tools with its Apache Access
Manager and administers them all through the NuSphere Security Console,
which helps organizations manage security activities from one central
location. These upgrades continue NuSphere's strategy of quarterly product
rollouts to extend its Internet Application Platform (IAP). The IAP is a
standards-based platform that brings web developers both the scalability
and manageability of a proprietary platform, and the affordability and
reliability of Internet technologies such as Apache and MySQL.

These latest products, available to current subscribers on October 1st,
provide businesses with the security functionality they need to run
mission-critical applications on the NuSphere IAP.

"In our lab, maintaining tight security is a top priority," said Jack
Connolly, a technical director for Children's Hospital Boston's
Neurobehavioral Studies Lab, as well as a beta user of NuSphere Advantage
2.3. "Our studies, involving critical information that affects the future
of brain research for children, are highly confidential and require
controlled access. NuSphere provides control of users and prevents
intrusions, while keeping our systems running smoothly. One of the reasons
we selected this platform is because open source tends to be more secure by
its very nature. The open source community provides proactive bug fixes to
applications before intrusions can even take place, giving me increased
peace of mind when building applications with NuSphere."

Specifically, the Internet security capabilities NuSphere Advantage
products now offer include:

· Vulnerability Scan: Scans web and Internet servers and their applications
to find vulnerabilities. Unlike other scanners that just report
vulnerabilities, the Vulnerability Scan can automatically fix many common
security holes, providing ease of use and the assurance that
vulnerabilities are not overlooked.

· Apache Access Manager: Allows developers to control access for different
users and control privileges to web sites and applications through the
Apache web server.

· Port Scan: Identifies unnecessary services on a network that might
present exposed entry for intruder requests. Every assigned port is a
vulnerable spot. This allows administrators to quickly scan which ports are
active to determine which can be shut down, if necessary.

· "Weak Password" Check: Provides methods for evaluating weak passwords.

· NuSphere Security Scan: Audits the web or Internet presence from outside
the firewall to detect Internet network vulnerabilities, assess risk, and
provide alerts in a summarized graphical report. NuSphere has partnered
with Qualys, a leading provider of enterprise network vulnerability
assessment and monitoring solutions, to deliver the NuSphere Security Scan,
an on-demand Internet security audit.

"Security breaches from inside or outside a corporation are becoming more
sophisticated in nature. At the same time, the volume of business-critical
data an organization must manage over the Internet has grown, while IT
staff resources have become more limited," said Lorne Cooper, president of
NuSphere. "NuSphere's latest security products give our customers ease of
use and maximum protection from unwanted attacks and viruses for their web
site, infrastructure and applications."

"In an unpredictable operational environment such as the web, security is
often the element that makes managers and IT professionals most anxious,"
said Carl Olofson, program director, IDC. "NuSphere is providing
ready-for-business capability to the many users of such open source
components as Apache, PHP, MySQL and Perl by strengthening security both
inside and outside the firewall for organizations that are building
Internet-based applications."

Even the best security can be attacked, so backups of critical data are
essential to fast repair of business systems. NuSphere Advantage 2.3 has
extended its database to include online backup, a feature in which the
entire database is constantly being saved so that system administrators do
not have to interrupt data availability or business processes.

NuSphere's security upgrades are available in the entire Advantage product
line: NuSphere MySQL™ Advantage, NuSphere PHPEd™ Advantage and NuSphere Pro
Advantage. Each software suite pairs the reliability and cost-effectiveness
of Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl with new technology enhancements for
building business-critical web applications. NuSphere Advantage subscribers
receive quarterly updates comprising technology enhancements that build off
of its core components. NuSphere MySQL Advantage and NuSphere PHPEd
Advantage are available for $299 per server and NuSphere Pro Advantage is
$495 per server.

As a special introductory offer, current NuSphere Advantage customers, and
those who purchase by September 30th, will receive 12 free NuSphere
Security Scans for a single IP address. Subscribers may then purchase a
three-month, unlimited scan service for a single IP address for $100, or an
entire year for $299.
