  Welcome to the September edition of the LPI-News.

  ________________________________________

  ** LPI is saddened by the recent events on September 11th in the
  United States - our hearts go out to all those involved and indeed
  all our friends and colleagues in the U.S.
  We hope that one day we can all live in peace.
  Terrorism is not the answer. **

  Level 2 Beta Exams
  San Francisco Linux World and the Volunteer of the month.
  LPI exam sites
  International Affiliates
  CompTia, Sage and LPI
  Sponsor in the spotlight - Coriolis

  1. LEVEL 2;

  Level 2 Beta is well on it's way to being completed and within the
next
  few weeks we should see the Level 2 exams published as Live exams;
  LPI-201 and LPI-202.

  We would certainly appreciate more candidates to complete the beta
  exam - and can assure candidates the results will be sent out within
  a short time frame.
  The beta exam is available at all Vue locations;
  http://www.vue.com/lpi
  It costs $84 and is an extended exam which will cover the entire
Level.

  Here are the objectives of this level;
  http://www.lpi.org/p-L2-obj-pre.html

  Please support LPI in this beta time frame - it's important that we
  take the next step, and we need the community to participate.

  Those who pass this one exam will be certified Level 2 (LPIC-2).

  (You must also pass the level 1 exams to receive the certification.)

  If you would like to offer the exam as an off site exam for your
  students, or your employees, or your LUG - all you need
  is a number of candidates (perhaps 15 or so) and a quiet room.
  We can arrange to do this for a very low price, please contact us
  if you are interested; julie@lpi.org  -  wilma@lpi.org

  2.  SAN FRANCISCO LINUX WORLD.

  Once again, we had a successful show. Many wonderful friends and
  volunteers came out to support LPI.
  We gave away many prizes at the raffle - and we
  also gave away a lap-top computer to one of the lucky participants.
  Thanks go to LinuxCertified Inc ( http://www.linuxcertified.com )
  who helped with the draws, supplied the lap-top and helped discuss
  the program with interested folk.
  Thanks Chander Kant and Rajesh Goyal for your ongoing support.

  The lucky winner of the lap-top computer was; Martín Sommer.

  LPI's Advisory Council is made up of many of the sponsors and friends
  of LPI who ensure we offer a valid and valuable certification.
  http://www.lpi.org/a-advisory.html
  The Council meeting was held during Linux World in San Francisco.
  We had participants from around the Linux Community who came together
  to discuss what LPI is doing, where we are going, and what should be
  done.

  2A. Rajesh Goyal of LinuxCertified.com also becomes the volunteer of
  the month of September for his untiring work at Linux World,
  where he ensured everyone received some information on LPI -
  thanks again, Rajesh!

  3. EXAM SITES

  LPI exams are being taken in 50 countries around the world. It is
  important that the standard be recognized worldwide. Anyone who
  needs to find the closest test site should look at the following
  web site; http://www.vue.com/lpi

  To ensure you are prepared for the exams, please check the objectives
  as the exams are based entirely on these objectives;

  For Level 1;   http://www.lpi.org/p-index.html
  For Level 2;   http://www.lpi.org/p-L2-obj-pre.html

  4. INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATES

  At present LPI-Japan is the only official affiliate, with all the
legal
  paperwork in place.

  Greg Wright, our International mailinglist chairman, is in process
  of completing the paperwork to have the 2nd official affiliate;
  LPI-Australia.

  We are aware that there are other unofficial groups who try to
  ensure LPI is discussed - in Germany, France, India etc.- some of
  these people are on the International mailing list, and we hope one
  day they will open official affiliate organizations of LPI, with
  the help of other Linux companies in their countries.

  Please contact Greg Wright (greg@ausit.com) if you are interested in
  participating in the international list.

  Here are some helpful FAQs to start an affiliate, either official or
  unofficial.

  5. COMPTIA AND SAGE AND LPI

  LPI is actively pursuing relationships with other dominant
  non-profit certification programs such as CompTIA and USENIX' SAGE
  Certification program in order to build additional value and career
  advancement opportunities worldwide to our Alumni.

  We are delighted to be able to work with these organizations and
  we will hopefully be able to give you further details on these
  arrangements as they become clearer and more definite.

  6. SPONSOR IN THE SPOTLIGHT

  CORIOLIS is this month's sponsor in the spotlight.
  They are our most recent sponsor and we would like to thank them for
  their support and interest in LPI.
  http://www.coriolis.com

  Thanks to all our friends and supporters of LPI for another successful
  month.
