MontaVista to Enhance Embedded Linux for Intel¹s Next-Generation Wireless
Platform

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 12, 2002 ‹ MontaVista Software Inc., the company
powering the embedded revolution, today announced that its flagship product,
MontaVista Linux® 2.1, will support the new Intel® PXA 210 and Intel®
PXA250 Applications Processors.

The Intel PXA210/250 Applications Processors are based on the Intel® XScale
microarchitecture and are designed for next-generation wireless and
connected devices such as full-featured handheld communication devices and
advanced PDAs. Manufacturers of these devices need embedded technologies
that deliver high-performance, robust functionality and versatility, while
meeting the small-size and low-power restrictions of their portable,
battery-operated products.

³Intel is pleased that MontaVista Software will be offering its embedded
Linux products for the Intel PXA210 and Intel PXA250,² said Mark Casey,
director of marketing for Intel¹s Handheld Computing Division. ³MontaVista¹s
experience and expertise in the Linux arena and the wireless and handheld
embedded OS market makes MontaVista Linux 2.1 a logical complement for
Intel¹s new processors.²

MontaVista Software will optimize MontaVista Linux 2.1 and associated
development tools for the specific architectural features of the Intel
PXA210/250 Applications Processors. MontaVista Linux 2.1 on these processors
will help application developers lower their deployment costs and accelerate
time-to market for next-generation mobile and wireless devices.

³A sophisticated embedded operating system such as MontaVista Linux can take
advantage of these powerful, highly integrated processors,² said Sheila
Baker, MontaVista¹s vice president of marketing. ³At the same time, the
synergistic combination will provide low power consumption, reduced memory
footprint and high integration with peripheral devices.²
