Subject: [ANNOUNCE] Early Conexant HCF driver available for beta-testing
Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2002 21:33:07 +0100

Hi,

I am happy to announce that the first beta version of a Linux driver
for modems based on the Conexant HCF controllerless chipset is now
available from

	http://www.mbsi.ca/hcflinux

Note that it is still an early version, which has not yet been fully tested.
The README file is appended below. Please read it carefully before deciding
to install this version.

Please report your results / send feedback to hcflinux@mbsi.ca

Good luck
Marc

This package contains Linux drivers for the Conexant HCF (controllerless)
modem family.

(Note that these drivers are not for the HSF (softmodem) chips.
HSF drivers are available from http://www.mbsi.ca/hsflinux)

HCF for Linux drivers were developed by Conexant Systems Inc
and Marc Boucher <marc@mbsi.ca>.

They should work on most current Linux distributions, based on
the 2.2.x or 2.4.x kernels. SMP machines have not been tested.

If you have a modem based on the HCF chipset but with different
PCI vendor or device IDs it might work if manually configured but
this is at your own risk.

Older HCF variants identified with the Rockwell PCI vendor ID (127A)
and devices with SmartDAA are not yet supported.

See the INSTALL file for installation instructions.

The modem AT command set is described in the file 100498D_RM_HxF_Released.pdf.

THIS IS PRELIMINARY SOFTWARE WHICH MAY CONTAIN BUGS THAT COULD
CAUSE CRASHES AND DATA CORRUPTION. THE USE OF THIS SOFTWARE
IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. WE DO NOT PRESENTLY RECOMMEND USING IT ON
CRITICAL SYSTEMS AND ONLY AFTER DOING COMPLETE BACKUPS.

Some features may not be implemented or work as expected.
Bug reports are welcome. (see section "REPORTING PROBLEMS" in INSTALL file)

Most files in this package are released under terms similar to the
BSD license. Some distinct components (such as the serial driver) however
are covered by the GPL. See the files LICENSE and modules/COPYING for details.
