But let's not forget that MandrakeSoft is also preparing another Mandrake Linux 8.2 release for PPC based systems. Beta 2 of Mandrake Linux 8.2 for PPC is out and if things go as steady as they have been until now, a final release might follow up pretty soon. Of course you're always invited to join the fun. What has happened since Beta 1: Stew, David and the participating users on the Cooker-PPC mailing list have done tremendous work and so this new beta contains a lot of improvements, updates and fixes: * Graphical installation improved, X setup on Radeon based TiBook works properly now. * Updated packages, corresponding more or less with final 8.2 x86. * Reworked XFree to address r128 issues. * Reworked install kernels to address r128 issues and OldWorld machines. * Fixes to detect/harddrake. * Working drakboot for PPC, fixed installkernel for seperate /boot. * Pulled xmms-cdread in from contrib for machines with no audio connection from CDRom (ibook2, and later). * Bonus - 1st packaging of ikeyd (iBook/PowerBook hotkeys daemon) * Fixed missing mouse after install (devfs). * Reworked AppleScript wrapper for BootX. * Fixed keymap load for users wanting Mac keymaps. * rpmslist reworked - used list from x86 beta4 with PPC specific adds. * Should not be any missing libs now. * Various other small installer/package fixes. Text mode install should work again. Lead developer Stew Benedict is quite confident that with the help of the participants on the Cooker-PPC mailing list, a final release of Mandrake Linux 8.2 for PPC will be available soon.
