Mozilla Newsletter
			21 May 1998 (3rd newsletter)

Welcome to the Mozilla newsletter. The idea of this newsletter is to
describe happenings that are of interest to the Mozilla developer
and/or Mozilla users. You can expect a new version of this newsletter
every week or two, describing the happenings in the Mozilla community
in that time.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or want to take over
maintenance of this newsletter, please drop me a note at
pgunn01@ibm.net. The most recent version of this newsletter will
be available at http://junior.apk.net/~qc/dok/moz_news, older versions
are available on request via email.

The first version of the Mozilla Newsletter was on 1 May 1998.

Since the last revision of the Mozilla newsletter, many of the OS
ports that are in development have advanced, and patches are
making their way into the CVS tree. The Mail/News code is becoming
available via CVS, but isn't completely there.

Mozilla on MacOS has begun to honor the settings of the Appearance
Manager, making the appearance of elements able to be set through
the Appearance Control Panel.

Mozilla on Rhapsody has taken great strides, and supposedly has been
seen running.

Tinderbox has become available, showing the status of the build on
several platforms, and making it evident who breaks the build with each
checkin. For the uninformed, there are a set of machines that continually
build Mozilla, and logs from the build (along with completion info) are
passed to the cvs server and displayed, along with build status. As
the code changes with submissions, it becomes very evident when
something breaks.

I (Pat Gunn) have been chasing authors of patches that make Mozilla
build or work properly, making sure they've submitted their patches
and gotten them into the CVS tree. If you've made patches of this
nature and haven't submitted them yet, you'll probably be hearing
from me soon.

Several large projects are finally taking off, a good example being
the translation project.

---

Status of each OS:
Win32: Currently, using VC++ is still the only option, but there
have been signs of activity in making it build with other
		compilers.
Win16: AFAIK, nobody has been working on this.
	MacOS: Builds fine
OS/2: Still working on getting all of NSPR to build and work properly
		Status at http://www.axess.com/users/sobotka/warpzilla/wzbldpjs.htm
	BeOS: Working on NSPR
		Status at http://www.best.com/~rhess/beos/bezilla/
Rhapsody: Nearing usability (supposedly runs with patches)
Generic Unix: Builds well with Motif, Lesstif is still very instable.
	AmigaOS: Not sure
