Ports

Following up on the discussion from last week, Eric Ding of Applix has confirmed that both Sparc and Alpha ports of Applixware are in progress. It is not yet clear that these ports will be brought to market, though; that depends on how many people tell Applix that they would be willing to pay for them.

Sparc

Sun has put out a roadmap showing their development plans for the Sparc CPU. This documentenvisions 1.5 GHz CPU's by 2002 (1.0 by 2000). That is, um, fast.

Alpha

Robert Hart of Red Hat will be speaking about Alpha Linux in Australia next week. He will be in Melbourne on September 10 and Sydney on the 15th. More details and signup instructions can be found in his announcement.

PowerPC

If you are seeing weird problems wherein the X display blacks out when a PPP connection is made you are not alone - it's a known MkLinux bug. You need to get the latest "Work In Progress (WIP)" kernel to get around it; this kernel can be found in Apple's WIP ftp site.
