Xi Graphics is pleased to announce the release of support for the
NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV, also known as the NM2200 and the NM2360.
This is much faster than previous NeoMagic chipsets as the new
benchmarks show. The initial machines explicitly supported are the
Toshiba Tecra 800 and the Gateway Solo 5150.

 Resolution   ->    1024x768   1024x768     1024x768
 Depth        ->    8bpp         16bpp        24bpp
 Xmark        ->
Server

Xaccel               16           14            11
XFCom_NeoMagic       13           11             2

Notes:

Benchmark tests were conducted on a Toshiba Tecra 8000 with a Pentium
II/266 Mhz processor, making the results broadly comparable with those
for the ATI Rage LT Pro announced in August. The Accelerated-X Server,
Xaccel, passes the X Test Suite with hardware acceleration in all color
depths. The XFCom_NeoMagic server fails the X Test Suite particularly
with font handling; the failures are in some cases quite visible. For
example in 24bpp, Netscape Navigator icons are black when using the
XFCom_NeoMagic Server. The benchmark speed of "2" for the
XFCom_NeoMagic Server in 24bpp is not a typo. The results were
reproduced because we couldn't believe them the first time.

Source code is not available under any conditions for XFCom_NeoMagic.
XFree86 Servers from any source are covered at best by the MIT license
which specifically includes commercial usage and are not, despite
hyperbole to the contracy, subject to the use of the Open Source trade
mark.

The NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV chip does support hardware gamma color
correction but does not support overlays. Hot key switching between
internal and external displays with different display characteristics is
supported by Accelerated-X, except on Toshiba systems. Velvet Mouse is
supported for a faster and smoother user interface in all color depths.
Hardware cursor is supported and used by default.

The update for Accelerated-X 4.1.2 Laptop Display Server can be found at

and further details and instructions for installation can be found in
the text file at URL:

The update may also be applied to the freely available Accelerated-X
Laptop Display Server demo, available from URL
