From: ridgway@ursula.gmcl.com (Douglas Ridgway) Subject: Mailing lists at WineHQ Date: 14 Oct 1998 04:38:18 GMT I've created a couple of mailing lists for Wine work at WineHQ. Subscription details are at http://www.winehq.com/cvs.html (summary: mail -s subscribe listname-request@winehq.com). It's easy to create more, but I want to hear about what people want. Here's what I propose: wine-announce@winehq.com -- read only, low traffic for announcing releases and other major Wine or WineHQ news wine-devel@winehq.com -- general discussion of Wine development, including process issues related to WineHQ patches@winehq.com -- for submitting and discussing patches wine-cvs@winehq.com -- read only, high traffic list which announces every commit Of these, only patches and wine-cvs have already been created. You can't read the archives on the web yet. Issues: o Should patches get renamed to wine-patches for consistency? o Are there other lists which should exist? o Does having discussion lists at all compete with this newsgroup? Should there be some kind of gatewaying? With respect to the newsgroup-vs-mailing list question, I tend to feel that Usenet is slow and unreliable compared to mailing lists, but I know that other people feel differently. It's possible to create mirrored lists/groups (Mozilla does) but I'd rather avoid it unless really necessary. Let's start discussing what we want. doug. ridgway@winehq.com http://www.winehq.com/
