Clemmitt Sigler ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A mini-HOWTO for installing and configuring the General Instrument SURFboard 1000 phone-return cable modem under Linux is now available. The SB1000 is a Plug 'n Play ISA card that, along with your standard phone modem, connects your PC to your cable TV provider's network service. Consult your local cable TV service to find out whether they provide cable modems or not. Also available is an autoinstallation disk image in .zip and .tar.gz formats for downloading and unpacking onto a floppy. Installing the SB1000 driver software for Linux is as easy as running the sb1kinst.sh BASH script provided and answering a few easy questions. The database file supplied is for Adelphia PowerLink customers only, but can be easily rewritten for customers of other providers. All this information is available at: http://home.adelphia.net/~siglercm/sb1000.html You can contact the maintainer of this site at csigler@vt.edu Clemmitt Sigler Linux/Unix Users' Group of Virginia Tech
