I'll confine myself to three statements.

1. OSI believes it is legally (and, more importantly, *ethically*)
   entitled to manage the mark.

2. OSI is still discussing an official response. We've got real work
to do. One thing I'm personally sure of is that we wouldn't serve the
community any better by being distracted from that work by a messy public
   slanging match.

3. We have a healthy tradition of respecting `sweat equity' in this community.
I invite anybody confused about the politics and legal fine points to
ask themselves one question: *who is doing the work*? And then a
second: *should anyone else get to call the shots*?

You may quote any of this, as long as it's attributed properly as a
personal response from me.

I don't like the idea that the police department seems bent on keeping
a pool of unarmed victims available for the predations of the criminal
class.
