NETBEANS JOINS CLOUDSCAPE'S CERTIFIED TECHNOLOGY PARTNER PROGRAM

Maker of Swing-based Java IDE Brings Advanced Component-Based Development
Capabilities to Cloudscape's List of Essential Ingredients for
"Occasionally-Connected Solutions"

New York City, NY, JAVA Business Expo, December 9, 1998 - NetBeans today
announced participation in Cloudscape's new partner program geared at
simplifying the deployment and management of off-line computing
applications for remote and mobile computing professionals. NetBeans
joins 12 other leading companies in bringing its best of category product
to the Cloudscape program.

The thirteen companies who have signed as Cloudscape Certified Technology
Partners include Acriter Systems, Active Software, BEA WebLogic,
Crossroads Technologies, Data Junction, Information Builders, Internet
Image, Informix, NetBeans, Novera, SilverStream, and Vision Software.
These partners provide crucial solutions for the "occasionally-connected"
computing professional.

The Cloudscape Certified Technology Partnership program follows the recent
announcement of Cloudscape 2.0, an extended version of the industry's
first light-weight, embeddable Java database for Internet computing.

"By joining forces with leading companies such as Cloudscape, we can
provide complete solutions for the Java developer community," said Roman
Stanek, Founder/CEO of NetBeans, Inc. "Building an enterprise application
requires a great amount of expertise in several areas - together, with
Cloudscape's Partner Program, we can make reliable, usable, powerful, and
complete cross-platform applications a thing of the present."

"Together with NetBeans, we free developers from the constraints of
traditional application development, allowing them to deploy database
enabled applications that support even offline users," said Malcolm
Colton, vice president of marketing, Cloudscape, Inc. "We are pleased to
have NetBeans join our Certified Technology Partner program, expanding our
customers options for standards-based application development and
deployment."

The Cloudscape Certified Technology Partner program offers the following
benefits to partners: a developer license of Cloudscape; software bundling
opportunities; co-marketing opportunities; and access to Cloudscape
technical support and engineering resources. For more information on
joining the partner program, contact Cloudscape at: 1.888.59.JAVA1, or

The NetBeans IDE
NetBeans Developer is a programming tool for software developers who want
to design and build powerful, cross-platform applications - on any
platform. NetBeans was designed for the Java platform and is one of the
first comprehensive IDEs with sophisticated support for visual
development of JFC applications. It is an industrial-strength development
tool that is easy to learn and intuitive to operate.

NetBeans Developer combines support for all stages of application
development including visual design, coding, compiling, and debugging in
a comprehensive visual programming package. It runs on all platforms that
support JDK(TM) 1.1.x, including Windows 95/98/NT, Linux, Solaris(tm),
HP-UX, OS/2, AIX, SGI Irix, Mac and others. The IDE is based on JFC and
JavaBeans Components, and all parts of the IDE are actually themselves
JavaBeans. The result is an IDE where the user can fully customize the
interface , modify component behavior and easily add new components.
NetBeans is built to be extended and will offer APIs for users to create
their own modules.
