Date: Sun, 17 Jan 1999 19:51:41 -0600 SomeWhat Regretfully, I have just Web purchased RH5.2 for $58.90. I first saw Oracle on Linux on Caldera's Web Page. I am employed as a Senior Oracle DBA at a very large National Media Company. I would love to get linux in production there. Red Hat is there already as an unofficial tool. I went from CND1.0 to Openlinux 1.3 over Red Hat, because of two reason primarily Sybase and the Novell connectivity. I think Caldera's Marketing is "TO AHEAD" of the lastest release of their out of the box capablities. And support for past product is lacking severly via Caldera's Internet Site. I have every email message on the list since PV1. I would be lost if not for it. But, glibc issues with your Openlinux is HOT. I have try the upgrade using GNU's HOWTO. I got the production release of Oracle 8 installer to run with out the run-time glibc.X.rpm. But, I still had compile problems. I could have make a mistake in bring the old /usr/include back. The HOWTO was diffcult for a OL1.3 realease. But, after two week ends of working on the installation, I will just use RH5.2 and hopefully install Oracle 8 after RH52 is delivered in 2 - 3 days. If some wants my PVI,PVII,CND1.0 or OpenLinux 1.3 I will give you a hell-of-a-price for them. If not, I hope I can at least backup my NOVELL server using OL1.3 and with my new Seagate STD2400 SCSI tape drive. Any ideas ??? I got the protocols running. Is Purchasing BRU2000 the BEST WAY to GO.
