First, a short while back we quietly created a new contrib directory on our FTP site for packages contributed by Caldera Systems VARs. It can be found here: ftp://ftp.caldera.com/pub/contrib-VAR The packages in that heirarchy are available for anyone and everyone to use, but only VARs contribute packages to it. The regular /pub/contrib directory for user contributed packages is still there and is always open for submissions by the general OpenLinux public. Now, the big news. Under /pub/contrib-VAR/RPMS is a subdirectory called "HackPak", and in this subdirectory is a set of required and optional RPM packages for upgrading OpenLinux 1.3 systems to use 2.2.1 kernels. That includes the 2.2.1 kernel itself. Everything has be placed under the HackPak subdirectory, including the HackPak.README file that contains directions for applying the updates. These packages were not created by Caldera Systems, but instead were created by Andrew McRory, one of our VARs in Florida. Neither Andrew nor Caldera Systems offer any support for this update (you will probably void out your ability to get tech support from us if you apply the packages, because you will no longer be running an OpenLinux system per se), but if you are interested in experimenting with 2.2.1 kernel stuff feel free to download and apply the updates. Once again just to be clear, this is all experimental and neither Andrew nor Caldera Systems will be taking on any support questions regarding usage of these updates. If that does not thwart your enthusiasm, feel free to apply the updates, then live long and prosper (or is it "go forth and multiply"? Maybe that would be better). -- | (o)(o) Erik Ratcliffe, erik@calderasystems.com | Please send all direct | | \oo/ Caldera Systems, Inc.
