To: gnome-list@gnome.org Subject: GNOME-DB 0.12 and SQL-GUI(GDA) 0.2 released Date: Thu, 04 Feb 1999 12:31:59 +0100 From: Michael Lausch <mla@gams.co.at> I just released gnome-db 0.12 and gui-sql 0.2 written by "Rodrigo Moya" <Moya_Rodrigo/madrid_tecnologia@sinvest.es> as it's frontend. Download information: gnome-db and the sql-gui are available at ftp.gnome.org and they are available on ftp.gams.at:/pub/gnome gnome-db (or gda) is a client library which uses CORBA servers to access various databases. Currently support for ODBC databases is working. MySQL is added just now and should be ready in a short time. Tested ODBC databases are: Solid <http://www.solid.fi> Postgres (with ODBC wrapper) <http://www.postgresql.org> The ODBC server uses the iodbc library, so that, in theory, it should be able to use any database which provides a dynamic lankable client library. The sql-gui is a graphical frontend. Originally it was written for another database library, but it was adapted to use the gnome-db (GDA) client library. I'll keep my webpage about gnome-db <http://www.lausch.at/gda/gda.html> up to date. gnome-db (or gda for short) is general enough so that it should be possbile to access LDAP servers, and other non-database data sources. You only have to create the CORBA server fo the data source and it should be possible to access other data sources as well (modulo query language syntax differences). -- Michael Lausch/g.a.m.s. edv dienstleistungen gmbh See my web page <http://www.lausch.at/> or query PGP key server for PGP key.
