The most prominent change in the gEdit development model is that, as of the the 0.5.0 series, gEdit will no longer support standalone GTK, and will require the GNOME libraries - there are a number of reasons for this change, if you're interested in what they are you'll probably want to check the most recent Status Report posted to the gEdit website and mailing list. This version has full support for the GNOME 0.99.x and (tentative) GNOME 1.0 API, and as such seamlessly integrates with the rest of the GNOME desktop environment. A relatively complete list of new features since 0.4.9 can be found below: * Drag and Drop support from GMC, the Gnome Filemanager. * A good deal of enhancements to the plugins interface, and to existing plugins, such as the ability to select what plugins to load, and enhancements to existing plugins to integrate better with the rest of the GNOME desktop. * Major UI enhancements, also for better GNOME integration. * Code cleanup - most of this just being removing outdated code that enabled support of standalone GTK. * More bug fixes, including the ability to use keyboard accelerators.
