Subject: Ways to raise Tcl's publicity and mind-share (was: What next to make right with Tcl)

One of Scriptics' goals is to raise the overall publicity, image and
mind-share of Tcl. Partly of course we are trying to do that by improving
the core Tcl/Tk product, releasing good Tcl tools and support, and
developing additional Tcl products to help people solve their integration
problems. We are also investing in PR, getting case studies about Tcl
published, getting more Tcl speakers and tutorials at appropriate
conferences and trade shows, and making it easy to find helpful information
on Tcl.

We have had a good number of articles published in the last year, including
articles in InfoWorld, Information Week, Inter@active, CIO, Red Herring, EE
Times, and others. Please look at the list at
http://www.scriptics.com/about/news/articles.html for more information, and
please pass these on to others! Many more articles were published about Tcl
in mainstream magazines in this past year than in any other year.

We want to do even more in 1999 to raise the publicity level of Tcl, and we
invite the Tcl community to work with us. If you have a Tcl success story,
write to us and we'll help to get it published. If you are a writer or a
speaker, tell us your topics of interest and we'll help to match you up
with opportunities. If you know of opportunities for a Tcl speaker, Tcl
event or Tcl article, tell us and we'll try to find the person to do it. If
you have other ideas of what Scriptics could do, or want to suggest working
together with Scriptics on a project, let us know!

We are very glad of the efforts of others to promote Tcl's use -- the Tcl
URL is great, for example -- because it takes the efforts of the whole
community to really make a difference. Scriptics can do a lot, but we can't
-- and don't want to -- do everything alone.

I am looking forward to getting a lot of emails!
