Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh, North Carolina

Main Extreme Linux Website: http://www.extremelinux.org
Main Expo Website: http://www.linuxexpo.org
LinuxExpo Registration: https://www.linuxexpo.org/register.html
============================================================================

The purpose of this track, organized by some members of the
ExtremeLinux mailing list is ExtremeLinux and Beowulf as
	     pertains to the following:

	     (1) Introducing cluster creation and programming to the
wider community of Linux users and programmers. (2) To
serve as a platform for introducing and furthering the
adoption of ExtremeLinux and Beowulf amongst businesses
and other non scientific users, and to be a platform for
showcasing scientific and non-scientific applications (3)
To have talks on the "Linux" aspects of ExtremeLinux, talks
that would be interesting to the linux user and programmer
community at large, for example, kernel programming like
filesystems, system administration, etc. (4) To stimulate
collaborations amongst Beowulf and other programmers, and
conversations amongst kernel developers and high performance
	     application programmers.

The program will consist of a highlighted speaker
	     , a technical track , tutorials , and a BOF session
. ExtremeLinux will have its own booth , very kindly provided
by the the Linux Expo organizers. Posters,Live demonstrations
and cluster building at this booth and other ExtremeLinux
related booths will be part of the program.

The tutorial sessions will cost $35 to attend-- REGISTER
	     NOW! at https://www.linuxexpo.org/register.html
	     for the tutorials.

	     The Technical program,
highlighted speaker, and BOF will be free (but require
you to register for the "Conference" part of the Expo,
of-course) and weaved in with the rest of the Expo technical
program. (Note that these tutorials are not part of the
regular Expo tutorials, and you must register specifically
for them, and you can register only for them.)

More details about the entire program are at
	     	http://reno.cis.upenn.edu/extreme/

which can be reached from the ExtremeLinux home page at
	        http://www.extremelinux.org

	CALL FOR PAPERS
	===============

We will be adding about 6 talks to the standard LinuxExpo technical track.
Extended abstracts for the papers are due by the 5th of April, and the papers
themselves are due on the 19th of April. Authors of accepted papers will be
informed by the 26th of April. All technical focus speakers will have travel
and lodging expenses paid for.

A small multiheaded cluster with a switched 100BT network will be
available at the Extreme Linux booth for demonstrating "extreme"
applications by prior arrangement.

Submissions are due to:
-----------------------

Robert Brown (rgb@phy.duke.edu)
Phone: 919.660.2567

Rahul Dave (rahul@reno.cis.upenn.edu)
Phone: 215.573.8264

Douglas Eadline (deadline@plogic.com)
Phone: 610.861.6960
--------------------------
We are looking for two types of papers:

Business and Applications Focus
===============================

How you used ExtremeLinux/Beowulf in your business or work,
for financial modelling and other business related calculations,
for scientific calculations, and other applications like computer crime
fighting, phylogeny, network serving, etc.
How this usage saved your company/organization
money. What performance/price advantage you got. What were the problems.

This focus is geared towards managers, application programmers and others
in the audience who might be interested in running a Beowulf or similar
cluster.

We will be able to support business and applications focus speakers for travel
and lodging expenses if they can demonstrate need for such support. In general,
speakers organizations ought to fund them, because our funds are quite
limited.

Technical Focus
===============

This focus covers everything technical about running a cluster, from large
scale system administration to kernel hacking. Examples would be the
development of benchmarks, performance monitors, new filesystems(pvfs, gfs,..),
I/O considerations, network drivers, scaling, scheduling, directory service
experiences(rdist/NIs/etc), fast messages implementation, MPI implementation,
Cluster metasystems(Legion/Globus), etc

Since this is a Linux conference rather than a high-performance conference,
the focus here is geared towards application and kernel programmers.

	CALL FOR POSTERS
	================

We know that many of you live on the west coast or outside the US. The Linux
Expo organizers have very kindly provided us with large booth space, and so
we would like to showcase the work of the community at large in the form of
posters which we will put up on the walls of the booth.

The focus of the posters will be both technical and applications, and is also
an ideal opportunity to introduce your cluster/beowulf project to the rest
of the linux world.

Each poster should be no more than 4 US letter or A4 pages in size, and
should be made available in color postcript or PDF format.

A small multiheaded cluster with a switched 100BT network will be
available at the Extreme Linux booth for demonstrating your "extreme"
applications associated with posters by prior arrangement.

The posters will also be made into handouts for booth visitors. Posters are
due by the 1st of May, 1999.
