LinuxPPC Developers Reference Release
Bloomington, Minnesota--May 13, 1999

The LinuxPPC Developers are now shipping their much awaited LinuxPPC
Developers Reference Release. The first release version, 1.0, supports
PReP and Apple Power Macintosh computers.

The LinuxPPC Developers, a loose coalition of programmers, have developed
the Reference Release as a basis for other PowerPC Linux distributions.
This release is not intended for general use, but as a set of common
software to be used by Linux distributors as the basis of their PowerPC
products.

The Reference Release will be availabe as two CD images, Install and
Source, or as a multiple file download. Everything required to build the
source packages and CDs will be included.

Various PowerPC Linux manufacturers have already started to use this
software or have indicated they will use this software for their
distribution development. Mark Hatle, project manager for the
LinuxPPC Developers, states "The Reference Release is the first step to
ensure that every Red Hat style distribution is compatable. Without a
common base to work from there is a lot of duplication of effort in the
community."

The LinuxPPC Developers Reference Release
 Red Hat Linux 6.0 Based Including:
    * Linux kernel 2.2.6 w/ UUSBD
    * glibc 2.1.1 pre2

About The LinuxPPC Developers
The LinuxPPC Developers are a group of people working on Linux for the
PowerPC. While the group works on porting Red Hat Linux to the PowerPC,
it does not directly work with Red Hat Software. The Developers have a
hand in everything from Linux kernel development to user software
development. Their goal is to create a close community of PowerPC Linux
companys, users and developers.
