Alta Technology launches Extreme ALTAtude™ Campaign for High Performance Linux Cluster Solutions.

SAN JOSE, CA, 10 August 1999 - Today at the Linux World Conference and Expo in San Jose, California, Alta Technology formally unveiled its Extreme ALTAtude™ campaign for its family of Linux cluster systems. The Extreme ALTAtude campaign reinforces Alta Technology's commitment to the Linux operating system and to creating scalable, high performance Linux cluster solutions that are reliable, easy to use, and cost-effective to maintain.

“The Extreme ALTAtude campaign is a commitment to take Alta’s clustered Linux solutions to the next level,” said Clark Roundy, Vice President, Sales and Marketing. In conjunction with the new campaign, Alta has also announced the development of Linux solutions for various vertical market applications. Alta's solutions will include turnkey, high-performance clusters to be used in applications such as research, renderfarms, and high availability Internet and network servers. Roundy said, “These application specific solutions will further solidify Alta’s leadership role in the clustered systems world.”

A leading supplier of clustered and parallel computing products, Alta Technology introduced its first Linux cluster product, the AltaCluster™, in early 1998. Since the initial AltaCluster introduction, Alta’s Linux cluster systems have been implemented in research and industrial applications throughout the world.

Recently adding Pentium III® processors at speeds of up to 550 MHz to its line up, Alta offers systems that use Pentium II®, Pentium III® and Alpha® processors. Alta's systems combine high performance and unique packaging to form scalable and reliable multi-processor systems that implement standard PCI technology and the popular Linux operating system to provide supercomputer performance at a lower cost of ownership.

Alta’s system families also implement Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) and Message Passing Interface (MPI) technology, facilitating the creation of a scalable, high performance architecture capable of very efficient parallel processing. Alta Cluster Systems may also be equipped with PBS for batch job scheduling, MOSIX for cluster load balancing, Global File System (GFS), a network attached storage system, and many other configuration options to suit a wide variety of applications.

Alta will be exhibiting in booth 542 at Linux World Conference and Expo at the San Jose convention center from August 10-12. On display will be two cluster solutions showing applications using Pixar's RenderMan rendering software, and Oxford Molecular's AMBER™ software for molecular modeling. The new Extreme ALTAtude logo will be on display and drawings will be held for free T-shirts with the new logo.

Note: Alta's in-house graphic and web designer, Jason Lowry, created the Extreme ALTAtude Penguin logo. Alta Technology holds the copyright to the logo.
