Here is another issue of Midgard Weekly Summary, gathered to provide you with information on the ever-developing world of Midgard. This week has been especially busy over the release of Midgard 1.1, and so there is much to tell. We will also be trying a slightly different format to make the email version of MWS a bit more readable. If you have ideas on how to improve the outlook, please contact me. But now to the point: ============================ ============================ Midgard 1.1 "Iron River" is out! The Midgard Project is happy to finally announce the release of newest major version of Midgard, the version 1.1 "Iron River". The release contains all the stuff discussed in both the previous issues of MWS and the Midgard Roadmap. To summarize, new features include: -Enhanced URI mapping (Midgardized directories on normal hosts!) -Working file attachment support for Articles -Includes PHP 3.0.11 (and can also be patched on existing PHP installations) -Renamed functions to comply with standard PHP practises Yes, you read the last two correctly. Midgard now plays with PHP much more nicely, and can actually be patched on top of existing PHP installations (ask Jukka Zitting for more instructions on this one). Now I hope we can finally start working with the PHP development team to merge the PHP and Midgard-PHP code trees ending the unnecessary code fork. Now, go read the release announcement, and then fetch Midgard 1.1 from our Web site! (And for people wondering: The release was named as "Iron River" because Jukka took a week-long vacation for building a medieval village named Rautajoki (Iron River) somewhere in Finnish countryside, halting Midgard 1.1 development for the time ;-) -> http://www.midgard-project.org/article/1058.html ---------------------------- A combined Midgard/PHP manual? There was a short thread at Open Source Writers Group's mailing list about the possibility of creating a combined user's manual for Web development with Midgard and PHP. Currently the project is still at an idea stage, and is looking for someone to start gathering volunteers to work on it. If you are interested on working on such a project, please head over to the OSWG mailing list. -> http://www.linuxchix.org/techwriters ---------------------------- IRC conference on Midgard development Midgard developer Jukka Zitting is calling a conference for people interested in Midgard development. The purpose of the conference is to discuss the future of Midgard and help new developers become familiar with the code. The conference will be held on IRC server irc.openprojects.net, channel #midgard on Thu 22nd July, 15.00 GMT If there are changes to this schedule, they will be announced in the Midgard mailing list and the midgard-project.org Web site. If the IRC conference proves to be popular, we will consider making it a regular happening. For more information, please contact Jukka Zitting (Jukka.Zitting@iki.fi) ============================ ============================ About Midgard Midgard is a freely-available Web application development and publishing platform based on the popular PHP scripting language.
