Subject: Correction to July 8 1999 lwn, Security section

British police *haven't* gained any new powers yet.  The proposed Bill
hasn't been passed.  Indeed, it seems quite likely not to be passed, since
(after the DTI sat on it for 9 months) it's now too late for the current
session without the opposition party's agreement.  And (now that they're in
opposition), the Conservative party have decided that the Bill is probably
unnecessary, and so are quite likely not to agree to it.  It may, of course,
be resubmitted next year.
