  Central Ohio Linux Users Group

            Sat., 31 July 1999, 13:00 to 15:00 local


Meeting Presentation
====================
               
1. The July meeting is scheduled be held SATURDAY, 31 July 1999 
13:00-15:00 -- It will be an INSTALLFEST, at the LanShark
facility -- see:  http://linux.lanshark.com/

   We've received a lot of `free' and low price CD's over 
the last month -- GPL RedHat 60; a NFR `TurboCluster 1.2'  
from Pacific HiTech; a KRUD 6.0 [Kevin's Really Uber 
Distribution -- see:   http://www.tummy.com/krud/ ].  We'll 
try to order in fresh Debian, Caldera, Slackware, and SUSE 
for the occasion.

   Pick up an 8-Gig IDE drive at Staples, and you too can 
have a multi-boot, multi-distribution wonder box.  Bring a
a chassis with a 10-base-T NIC and cable to jack into the 
hub of a central server -- We may do a couple of `rsync' 
fast installs, as well.

2.  There'll, no doubt, be a smattering of local `experts' to 
offer their thoughts for `general install Q and A's, describing 
varied techniques for `dog-licking-cat' Linux/unix high-level 
problem solving in more newbie-friendly terms.  [`dog-licking-cat' 
in the sense that local gurus and wizards need to remember to carefully 
explain their thought process in `solving' an issue -- to a `newbie' 
saying `RTFM MAN 1 PASSWD' is pretty opaque, in solving their simple 
question on `how do I change my password?'.]

3.  Finally, and such as we ever have a `formal' business part of the 
meeting, it will follow the installations.

  As always (both with the informal nature of the group's `management' 
and the vaguries of the presenters' schedules), the agenda and 
content are subject to change.

... The group has met on the LAST Wednesday or LAST Saturday of a month,  
alternating by month to allow more folks to mesh their schedules with
COLUG's.  Sites and dates also depend on facility availabity, with 
common-sense relocation in the holiday season.
