This has been another week with a lot happening in the Midgard world. Here is some of the new stuff summarized: ============================ ============================ Development news The first Midgard IRC meeting was held on irc.openprojects.net channel #midgard in July 22nd. The meeting went quite well, and had 11 attendees. Topics discussed were the coming ODBC support, access control and WebDAV distributing authoring system. Here are some development news, mostly from the IRC meeting: Emile Heyns has volunteered to work on adding WebDAV support for Midgard, and has been keeping the Midgard mailing list updated with the progress of this project. The Midgard Project hopes to include WebDAV support to Midgard's list of features soon. At the moment, most users of Midgard are installing their servers straight from the sources. This is a quite tedious process, and one that ought to be streamlined. Mark Constable is now working on a more advanced installation scheme for Midgard's source packages. In future, there are plans to also include support for CVS installs and fetching of latest packages from Midgard's Web site. After we stated in MWS #8 that Midgard 1.2 will be using the iODBC library for its database connectivity we were informed about unixODBC, another LGPLd database connectivity library. After initial tests run by Jukka Zitting it now seems that users will be able to use both libraries with Midgard. For people unable to run Midgard properly, there is now also a short tutorial on debugging Midgard by Jukka Zitting: -> http://www.midgard-project.org/article/1096.html ---------------------------- Red Hat 5.2 / Intel RPMs available Emile Heyns' RPM packages for Midgard 1.1.1 have now been declared stable, and are available for Red Hat 5.2 users as both Intel binaries and Source RPMs. If there are any volunteers to build the packages to other architectures, please contact Henri Bergius. -> http://www.midgard-project.org/download/binaries/ ---------------------------- Midgard for Debian 2.2? Another binary-related news is that Debian Developer Teemu Hukkanen (tjhukkan@iki.fi) has posted an Intent To Package on Midgard for the Debian distribution. The packages should be available shortly after the first Midgard version that uses ODBC is out, removing the licensing problem with non-free MySQL. This means that if everything goes as intended, Midgard will be included in the Debian 2.2 distribution. -> http://www.progressive-comp.com/Lists/?l=midgard&m=93309491706298&w=2 ---------------------------- Access Control in Midgard Midgard developer Jukka Zitting has now posted a summary of Midgard's access control options. The text can be found from Midgard Web site's Documentation area. -> http://www.midgard-project.org/article/1110.html ============================ ============================ About Midgard Midgard is a freely-available Web application development and publishing platform based on the popular PHP scripting language.
