Greetings!

This is the tenth issue of Midgard Weekly Summary. We've
been publishing these on various channels every week
after 26th of May, except for one quiet week in late
June.

Previously, the MWS was run in two newsfeeds, the
Midgard Web site and Linux Weekly News. Now a third
Web site has joined this group: Linux Developer's
Network at http://LinuxDev.Net. Thanks to Christopher
Tan for this support!

And now to the news:

Midgard documentation projects

Good documentation is an essential part of any
development platform, and so Midgard shouldn't be
without it. As the project is fairly young in its
public form we haven't yet had the resources to
create adequate documentation on its installation
and usage.

Now, thanks to the Open Source Writer's Group and
some volunteers, we are finally getting the
documentation process started. Many people have
contacted me to ask how to contribute to the
documentation projects. Here is a list of what is
going on with them. If you are interested in
helping, please either contact the people working
on existing projects, or contact me about starting
a new one.

-Jonni Lehtiranta (alokas@greywolves.org) and Mark
 Constable (markc@renta.net) are maintaining the
 Midgard FAQ.

-Jean-Pierre Arneodo (arneodo@initiative.fr) is
 working on the function reference.

-Craig Sprout (csprout@wtp.net) has volunteered to
create a 'Getting Started' guide for Midgard.

Besides these, we have some plans on what kinds
of documentation would be useful to Midgard users
and developers. At first, it will be propably best
to concentrate on documenting the installation and
configuration phase so that people could get Midgard
working more easily. After this, some notes on the
architecture and methodology would be in order as
well as some nice tutorials on common topics.

Please contact me (Henri.Bergius@iki.fi) for more
information.

Installation manual for Midgard

Eddie Azman (ea118@yahoo.com) has written an
installation manual for Midgard based on his
experiences with the Iron River release.

At the moment the manual is still maintained
on his own Web server, but will propably be
transferred to Midgard's Web site later on
as a standard part of Midgard's documentation.

Hopefully this will help our new users on
the rocky path of Midgard installation.

ODBC-enabled Midgard ready for testing

Jukka Zitting has posted a test version of the
forthcoming 1.2 release of Midgard to the
'Development Materials' section of the Midgard
Web site.

This test version is the first development release
of Midgard that uses ODBC for its database
connectivity. At the moment it will only work
with the MySQL database, but the problems with
other databases should be fixed quite soon.

The test version can be built to use either the
iODBC or the unixODBC library for ODBC support.

New developer mailing list

There is now a new mailing list for Midgard
developers. The mailing list is mostly for
monitoring new updates to Midgard's CVS
repository.

Development discussions will still be held
on the general mailing list.

You can subscribe the new midgard-dev list
by sending a blank message to
