LinuxPPC Security Challenge annouced; PowerPC machine offered as prize LinuxPPC Inc. announced the LinuxPPC Security Challenge, a competition to break in to a computer running LinuxPPC 1999. The target computer is running the standard installation of LinuxPPC 1999. The target box has the Apache web server and telnet services turned on. Sendmail and FTP are not activated yet. The contest was announce in response to Microsoft's Window 2000 security challenge, which has a box running a Windows 2000 beta. However, only HTTP is running on the Microsoft box. To make things more interesting, the LinuxPPC box has telnet service active, opening another possible door for endeavoring network security enthusiasts to break in. Rules: The target box is called crack.linuxppc.org. If you succeed in breaking in to this box within the allotted time and according to the outlined rules, you will win the Power Mac 9500. The break-in must be acheived by Wednesday, August 11. To claim the box as your prize, you must be able to telnet in as root, and reproduce and demonstrate the method that you used to crack the box.
