This has been another busy week with lots of things going on around Midgard. While there isn't that much to announce this week, there will surely be in the following few weeks. ============================ ============================ Second beta for Midgard 1.2 Jukka Zitting announced Midgard release 1.2 beta 2 on 6th of August. This release includes lots of cleaning up in the Midgard code base and should work with the iODBC libraries. There are still some unsolved issues with unixODBC and Jukka hopes for debugging help to get it working. Although the release uses ODBC it still doesn't quite work with other databases than MySQL. Jukka's opinion now is that we will first release the version 1.2 and after that work on getting other databases supported and release patches for those when they are done. Of course help in this section could enable us to support other databases earlier. Many have requested Oracle or Postgres connectivity for Midgard. Are there any people experienced in them who could help Jukka with this? Please contact the Midgard mailing list if you are interested. The second beta of Midgard 1.2 can be found at: -> http://www.midgard-project.org/article/1139.html ---------------------------- Update on documentation projects The work of the Open Source Writer's Group with Midgard is now starting to bear fruit. Many have volunteered to work with Midgard's documentation, and I believe we will start seeing some results soon. There are now actually more people working on the documentation than there are working with the code, which is of course just as it should be. First results are now showing. Eddie Azman's Installation Guide announced in last MWS has now been added to Midgard's site and will be the starting point of our larger Getting Started guide. The work on that continues and people interested in helping should contact either Eddie (ea118@yahoo.com) or Craig (csprout@wtp.net). We also have now a team page showing current members of the Documentation Team. If you are interested in doing some documentation work or are already contributing to it, please contact me so we can get you added. -> http://www.midgard-project.org/group/15.html ---------------------------- Looking for artists The Midgard Project's graphics designer Janne Puonti will be attending civil service for the next year and so will be quite unable to work on Midgard's graphics projects. Because of this we are now looking for some designers with experience in Web (and possibly also print) graphics. We mostly need new promotional material (banners, buttons, etc.) and some UI elements, but also at times it would be nice to have graphics showing some finer elements of Midgard's architecture and usage. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me by email (Henri.Bergius@iki.fi) and tell about your graphics skills and the amount of time you could be putting into these projects. Thanks to Janne for working with us all this time, and hopefully also in the future. -> http://www.midgard-project.org/person/118.html ---------------------------- Upcoming demo server In MWS #3 we were asking for someone to host a demo server for us. Now Midgard developer Emile Heyns has volunteered to create the service. The idea is to have a Midgard server running in PHP safe mode with the Admin and Example sites that users can modify freely. All modifications will then be cleaned regularly to keep the service usable, but otherwise it will be kept easily accessible so that Web developers interested in Midgard can learn about its usage. The service should be available in next few weeks. -> http://www.midgard-project.org/article/1016.html ============================ ============================ About Midgard Midgard is a freely-available Web application development and publishing platform based on the popular PHP scripting language.
